You’re too busy to work a side hustle. You work all day or you’re home with your kids all day, constantly begging for your attention. I get it. It feels like you don’t have time to grow your online business. By the time you help your kids with homework, make a meal, do bath time, stories, and get them into bed, and grab that 6th drink of water for them, you barely have any energy to brush your own teeth or give your spouse some love before your head hits the pillow.
The struggle is real!
I understand this feeling because as a mom of two little ones, I’m right there in the trenches with you. It can be hard to prioritize your business when everything else in your world is screaming for your attention. So how do you go from focusing on whatever’s screaming the loudest in the moment, to being more intentional with your time? I got you, Boo. And I’m going to give you four great tips to manage your time better and grow your home business.
Our days are filled with distractions, “emergencies”, household tasks, budgeting, phone calls, appointments, and a million responsibilities. We barely have time to even shower some days, am I right? So how is it that one stay at home mom of 2 is earning 7 figures and another is struggling to even just get started in her home business? Does mom #1 have some crazy super-powers that just make her super awesome and mom #2 just got the short end of the stick & is just destined to a life of mediocrity?
I don’t believe that. Do you?

TIP #1 - Don't Get Frustrated, Get Fascinated
As two of my mentors, John & Nadya Melton, would say. “Don’t get frustrated, get fascinated.” What does that mean? If you want what they have, don’t sit around and sulk about it. Feeling irritated or less worthy or jealous doesn’t get you anywhere. Get fascinated by these superhero business rock stars and figure out how the heck they’re doing it, so you can too!
Start following (stalking, but not in a creepy way) successful people. Find ways to learn from them. Make friends with people who are at least one step ahead of where you are in life and talk to them about how they do it. LEARN from those rock stars!
Tip #2 - Get Crazy Determined To Refuse To Live A Mediocre Life
The sad truth is, for most of us, our dreams don’t scream loud enough to get our attention.
I’m not going to go into a big rant about how your why has to be big enough to make you cry. What I am going to tell you though is that you have to make a conscious decision to make a change. You have to DECIDE to take action on your dreams. You have to decide that your dream is going to become your reality and start PLANNING the right actions to make that happen. Turn your dreams into plans.
If you want hobby income, work your business like a hobby. That’s totally fine if that’s what success looks like for you.
But if you want retire-your-spouse-vacation-all-over-the-world-do-whatever-you-want BUSINESS income, you have to work your business like it’s a business. YOU are the CEO of your business. No one’s going to make it happen FOR you, but YOU. And if your business isn’t moving forward, YOU are the one responsible for making that change.
Tip #3 - Block Time To Work Your Business
So how the heck do you make this happen?
I want to encourage you to make AT LEAST 2 hours a day to work your business (more if you can).
I can’t remember where I heard this, but if you say you don’t have at least 2 straight hours per day to work on your dream, you have 3 options…
- Get resourceful and find a few 30-minute pockets of time during your day to work on your dream.
- Get up an hour earlier & stay up an hour later to work on your dream.
- Get a bigger VISION that ignites you to get up an hour earlier & stay up an hour later to work on your dream.
It’s true! I would actually add a 4th option that you could just give up on your dream all together. It’s not a great option, but it’s your choice.
If you’re not willing to actually spend time working your business, it’s not going to grow. If you want to grow your business quickly and in a big way, you have to be willing to put a lot of time and energy into it up front.
You have to be willing to work right now like no one else will, so in a couple of years you can live a life that no one else does.
As you get going, there are lots of great ways to decrease your time requirements, so you can go enjoy that dream life you’ve worked hard to create. We’ll talk about those more in other posts… But if you want to grow FAST, you have to make sacrifices up front.
If you want to move at a slower pace, that’s fine. Just make sure that you make solid plans for hitting those goals and that you work every single day to get yourself there on the timeline that’s right for you.
I have a friend who was a bus driver. She worked her business in the tiny pockets of time she could throughout her day, using her phone. I have another friend who has triplets and works LONG days, running a nursing home. She’s growing her home business like crazy. The point is, when you’re serious about building your business and reaching your goals, you will MAKE time, not excuses.

You’ve probably heard that saying about shooting for the moon, so at the very least, you’ll land among the stars. If you don’t shoot at all, you’re going to stay right where you are…. stuck.

Tip #4 - Figure Out What's Stealing Your Time
Take an assessment of what you are actually doing every day and what the time-suckers are. Do you watch too much Netflix? Do you get sucked into scrolling FaceBook or watching random cat videos? Do you have things in your life that you can delegate to free up some more time for yourself? When you do sit down to work your business, are you doing income-producing activities or just busy work or spinning your wheels?
It’s time to cut the excess noise. You need to have a plan for what activities you will do every day so when you do have those time blocks to work, you’re not getting pulled into distractions and you have laser focus on what needs to happen to move forward with your plan to hit those dream goals. Plan what tasks you need to do to get yourself there and realize everything else is a distraction that needs to be minimized.
