1 – Make Your Email List Sign-up Forms Stand Out
Create email opt-in forms that grab your target audience’s attention and place those forms in a prominent spot on your website. Design your primary form so it’s different from the rest of the page and surround it with benefit-laden calls-to-action telling people what they can expect in return for giving you their info.
Opt-in form placement is important for getting people’s attention. Put your sign-up form in multiple places on your website. Put it in a sidebar but also at the bottom of your blog posts. You can even add an entry or exit pop-up to catch people before they leave.
2 – Ask for Only Two Things
Your email opt-in form should have only two fields to fill in: first name and email address. Don’t ask for anything more than that. This personal information is already a big ask from someone who doesn’t really know, like, & trust you yet. If you make it harder or more complicated to sign up, people won’t do it.
3 – Get the Word Out
In addition to your site, tell people about your email list everywhere you talk to your audience. This is huge for how to grow your email list fast. Advertise it on social media (including your profile), email signature, marketing materials, and anywhere else people might potentially see it.
4 – Emphasize the Benefits of Your List
What unique value does your list offer? Identify this and explain it everywhere you talk about your list. Understand your target buyer well and offer them something irresistible. Frame it in terms of how your email content will improve their life.
5 – Use a Lead Magnet
It’s far better to market your freebie opt-in (which they get for joining your list) than to try to convince someone to join a newsletter. Give them some value in exchange for their info. You can entice more people to sign up by using a lead magnet (opt-in freebie). This is a free piece of content that people can get in exchange for their name and email address. The lead magnet also gives people a taste of the value they can expect from your list.
6 – Offer a Content Upgrade
A content upgrade is a lead magnet created specifically for a particular blog post or page. This is a little different from just having a general freebie optin in your sidebar or exit popup. You’ll see an example of one of my content upgrades on this page 😉
7 – Tell People Offline
Don’t forget to tell people you meet offline about your list (or even better, your freebie opt-in) as well. If you have an offline store, advertise and tell customers personally. Include it on offline marketing materials as well as online. The goal is to move people into your list, so you can further connect with them, build your know, like, and trust factor, provide value, and turn leads into customers.
8 – Monitor Your Marketing Results
Keep track of where the bulk of your new subscribers are coming from. For example, if you find that your Facebook page is driving more traffic, focus your efforts there. Follow the data. You may also try other social media sites to see if you get similar results. Alternatively, if you find that some marketing channel isn’t sending new subscribers, drop it and try another. This is how you discover what works best for your market.
